As noted in my blog, I have been without the internet for some time now. Q Games‘ PixelJunk Eden intrigued me enough, however, that I took my PS3 round to my friend Sherif’s house and made use of his internet to download it.
I’m glad I did. At first glance, Eden is a quirky puzzle game with a weird control system and quite pretty stylized graphics. It’s the third in the PixelJunk series, the first two of which (Racers and Monsters) abstracted other well-known game genres (Racing and RTS respectively) into simplified puzzle-game forms. Eden doesn’t seem to be an abstraction of anything else in particular, but it has that same minimalist purity — even more so than the previous two releases. The control system, though it may seem peculiar at first, is actually very good, and makes for a very interesting style of play.
PixelJunk Eden is, I believe, the best in the PixelJunk series, and a highly addictive and enjoyable game.
